That’s right, last autumn Her Maj had us round for a tour of Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. Well, she didn’t exactly lead us around herself, but still.
Buckingham Palace State Rooms
When the queen goes to Balmoral Castle, her holiday house in Scotland, from the end of July through September, she opens the State Rooms of Buckingham Palace for touring. We went on the last day it was open, October 1, along with my parents.
We started our Sunday by watching the snow fall outside our London windows, which was a first for us. E was SUPER excited. Seems she’s already forgotten how much snow she’s seen in past winters in Baltimore. “Look at how many snows are on the cars!”
[Then and now:]
January 2016, Baltimore
December 2017, London
Well, because this is London, that wasn’t actually many snows, so we had no trouble getting to the New Wimbledon Theatre last night.
As I mentioned in my last post, my best friend from growing up in Oregon, Jess, and her husband Tom and their nearly-2-year-old came to visit us in London just before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, their little guy didn’t adjust too well to the 8-hour time change from their home in Seattle, so we didn’t do all that much during the day, as he was up for half the night for the first week. (He’d wake up in the middle of the night—dinnertime in Seattle—asking for quinoa.)
